09/11/10 TykeTrial's Christmas Special event postponed

The Tyketrial Club regrets to announce that the Tyke Trial Christmas Special and the 2010 Tyke Trial Annual General Meeting, which were due to take place on Sunday 12th December, have been postponed.

The conditions at Harden Moor, where the competition was to be held, have meant that it would not be feasible to run a safe, enjoyable trial for everybody involved. While we do not doubt the abilities of our riders in the slightest, the amount of snow and ice on the rocks and ground have made setting safe sections an impossibility. In addition to this, melted snow and ice on the footpaths means that the ground is incredibly slippery and uneven underfoot and we are concerned that just getting around the venue would be hazardous for spectators, officials and riders alike.

The weather conditions have also meant that we have received a very low number of entries for the event as people were concerned about travelling and riding with roads etc. as they are.

We are therefore postponing the event and the AGM that was due to follow it, in the interest of the safety and enjoyment of our club members. The event will take place at a later date, to be confirmed, when the venue has thawed out a bit and as soon as a date has been set it will be published on the Biketrial Federation's events page and various other media.

Entry fees that were paid by cheque have not yet been processed and cheques can either be returned, destroyed or kept back for entry for the rescheduled event. Entry fees that were paid in cash can be returned or kept back for the rescheduled event. Entry fees paid on-line will be refunded immediately

We would like to apologise to those members who had entered the trial and were planning on attending the AGM. It is always disappointing when an event cannot be run, but we hope that you can understand the reasons behind this difficult decision.

28/11/10 Provisional UK Trials Calender for 2011
Check out the events page for the provisional calendar for 2011. Currently up to date with EBU, BIU and UCI International dates and venues, and a couple of dates for the British Cup Series. The Biketrial Federation UK meet on 1st December to finalise all the series dates and venues for next year, so watch out for updates.
28/11/10 Christmas Special
TykeTrial Club invites everyone to join them at their Christmas Special Trial at the Harden Moor venue above Keighley/Bingley in West Yorkshire.
An end of season fun event with two laps of 5 sections, followed by a hot buffet lunch at the Guide Inn, followed by as much riding as you want. Special Christmas awards for the top 3 in each class and a prize for the best decorated Christmas bike and rider!
Everyone is welcome, open to non-members and those just wanting to have a go at competitions - but as food has to be ordered and paid for in advance you will need to let them know by filling in the on-line entry form and payment from the Events page of this website. £10 per rider (to include food) and £5 per person not riding for food.
Give a trials comp a go in a fun, relaxed setting!
01/11/10 Support the new clubs
Whilst everyone's been busy with the National series, there have been a couple of new clubs opening up, and others closing down. We are sad to hear the the Hampshire Biketrial Club has now closed with the retirement of Terry and Hazel Graves. Terry and Hazel have done a fantastic job over many years running a really friendly local club in Hampshire. It is sad to hear of the closure, but everyone wishes Terry and Hazel all the best for the future, with a massive "thankyou" from everyone in the biketrial sport.
In the meantime, there have been two new clubs started up, the Crowthorne Cycle Trials Club in Surrey, and a new club in Scotland. Information is still a little scarce but contact details can be found on the "clubs" page, give them a call. We wish you all the best with the new clubs - if you live anywhere near, please do support their events. We'll bring you more information if/when we receive it.
We do know that the Scottish club is holding an event on Sunday 7th November at Garelton - a poster with information and an entry form can be downloaded from the "events" page. Get the entry form off to the organiser, Kevin as soon as possible so he can be prepared for you all on the day.

At the end of yet another very succesful year and successful series, we can only thank everyone who took part and supported the events - many many thanks to all 135 riders, to all observers, section-setters, land-owners, sponsors, and everyone involved in making this a great year.

After a very very closely fought series, we are proud to announce that the overall Elite winner was James Hyland, taking home the new British Trials Cup for 2010. Well done to James who took the Cup by just one point over runner-up Dave Kerr, with Andrew Walker in third place.

Check out the full report of the event and see riding pictures at Tribalzine. Many thanks to Ben Swales for his excellent reports and photos throughout the year.

The Annual Meeting of the Biketrial Federation will take place very soon where plans for the 2011 series will see if the series can be made even better.

Hope to see everyone again next year at some brilliant venues - and with some even tougher sections for the Elites!

Support for the 2011 series has once again been promised from Onza bikes, and once again from Phatworks. Many thanks as always to both of these in keeping your costs down, and in helping to promote the events.

More sponsors are welcomed, anyone wishing to offer support for the series please contact us at info@biketrialuk.co.uk.

10/10/10 The new "British Trials Cup"

The actual cup is currently away being engraved so we can't put a photo up here, but it'll look something like this, fully engraved on the front with the "British Trials Cup", and each year the winner's name will be added.

At last there is to be some permanent reminder of those Championship winners in the past - we hope the sport continues for many years to come and that this cup is something for everyone to aim for in the future.

But even more poignant will be the engraving on the back of the cup. Our friends and riders who loved the sport and aimed for the title, but through tragic circumstances were unable to make it.

The reverse of the British Trials Cup will say:

In Memory of
Gavin Bedford

We hope that we will never have to add more names, but this will remind us each year at the end of the season of a fellow rider who can no longer be with us.

07/10/10 New British National Cup sponsorship
Most of you will already know Michael Singleton from attending competitions, his company "Phatworks" will be sponsoring future British National Cup events with brilliant prizes for winners in all classes.
1st place will receive the new unique GOLD PHATPADS - these can't be bought, no-one (not even Michael) can have them unless they win a National competition!
2nd place will receive a pair of brand new standard PHATPADS
3rd place will be awarded a set of refill PHATPADS.
In addition, each 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize pair of pads are presented in their own Gold/Silver/Bronze presentation box, along with stickers and a custom PHATWORKS rider jersey, complete with the competition details.
Get youselves along to Shipley Glen on 17th October for the final round of the 2010 series - you could just be a winner and take home one of these unique prizes!

The series' organisers are very grateful to all sponsors and thank Onza for their continued support which has enabled many improvements to the events over the last two years.

One of these is that, at the Shipley Glen final round on 17th October, the new British Trials Cup will be presented for the first time to the year's overall winner of the Elite 24/26" Class. The top results are close ... whose name will be the first to go on there?

New sponsors for the series are welcomed, if your company would like to help these events please just email us at info@biketrialuk.co.uk.

20/07/10 British Trials Cup R4, Bracken Rocks - well done to everyone!

The day dawned sunny and dry for this 4th round of the British series, but the rain started just as riders had set off to the sections - just in time to make the rocks and tree roots nice and slippy for them, and to wake up the hoards of enormous wood ants (not to mention waking up the wasp's nest under a rock in section 8). Some very high scores (and some very low scores) came in from the first lap, thankfully the rain didn't last long and by the second lap the rocks were drying up to give a much more grippy ride. It was certainly a challenging event, particularly for those not used to wet riding!

All in all a good event, a few sad faces, but lots of smiling ones as the podium pictures below show - well done to everyone for completing the event.

Many thanks as always to Joe Poyser from Onza for sponsoring the series, we had a long chat about prizes for next year - 2011 could be interesting!

Before the event started, riders paid their respects to Gavin Bedford with a minute's silence. Gavin, who has been a regular competitor at our events, was taken from us recently after a tragic accident. RIP Gavin, you were a brilliant rider, and a popular friend. We will always remember you.

10/06/10 The big event of the year!

The first day dawned and all seemed to go smoothly with the distribution of the entry passes - phew, we got everyone in!

Everyone signed on quickly and we were ready for a prompt start at 10.30am. With three man-made sections in the main arena, concrete pipes, logs and imported rocks, and five natural sections in the woods and stream there was an excellent selection of sections for all abilities. Some riders were taken aback at how hard sections at events really were, while others took them in their stride, and with scores ranging from 5 to 80 the results were pretty well mixed! Well done to everyone for trying, even if you didn't get in the top three it's all good experience.

Saturday was a stand-alone British Trials Championship; loads of riders had gathered from all around the country and with a really good turnout from the local Scottish riders. The weather was kind to us, a lovely hot sunny day - too hot for the famous Fort William midges, but just right for the rest of us. In fact several riders, including Sam Cahill and Chris Rider took a cooling off swim in the dam next to section 8 !

Everyone nicely got round the course before the allotted finish time of 3.45pm, and all was ready for the award presentation ceremony at 4.30pm. Many thanks to Leyanne Jenkins from British Cycling for presenting the British Trials Championship awards. The awards themselves deserve a mention; the medals were individually hand-made from bike parts, they looked really good! Unfortunately we don't have a close up photo, but if anyone could let us have one to show everyone that would be great.

After the presentations some riders stayed on to watch the 4X event, others carried on riding, and yet others of us fell into bed for a decent sleep before the next day's event. (Where does everyone get their energy from?)

Once again Sunday's round 3 of the British National Trials Cup ran pretty smoothly. People had really got into the swing of things now and got round the course really quickly. It could have been something to do with wanting to get the trial finished in time to go and watch the main downhill event? Other's charged off to get their free ride up the mountain in the gondola to watch the race. Whatever, everyone was having a really great time!

Award presentations once again were held on the main stage at 4.30pm, with medals for the day being awarded by Joe Poyser from Onza, the sponsor of the National Cup series for this year.

Overall, it was a brilliant two-days of trials and cycling, with some really great competitors. Many thanks to all who took part, and particularly to all those who observed for you at the event. If you haven't brought an observer yet this year, please do try to and give our regulars a break.

Hope everyone can make it to the next round of the series at Bracken Rocks near Matlock in Derbyshire on 18th July. See you there!

If you've never been to the Fort William event, just try to imagine the pride of standing on the podium, on stage, looking out at the hundreds of spectators clapping and cheering and blowing horms for you!
Smiles for Charlie Rolls (above) and Adam Morewood (below) the 8 year old winner and runner-up of the Novice class.

07/06/10 Well, what a weekend!

27/05/10 Fort William - 2 Days of Trials - Entry passes and signing on instructions

With just over a week to go the plans for our event are complete. There are some final details that those attending need to be aware of, in particular the issue of rider's wrist bands and minder's passes. Don't forget entries will be accepted online up to midnight on Wednesday, there is still time to be part of the UK's biggest off road cycling event, make sure you pre-enter to receive passes for you and your minder for the whole of the weekend's action!

Click on the map below to download as a printable pdf file.

When you arrive at the venue, go straight to the Trials Registration gazebo (in the car park on your left when facing the Main Entrance). It will be a gazebo with a "British Trials Championship" banner. Provided you have pre-entered the event, your free entry passes will be available there. This gazebo will be manned from 8.00am on Saturday and Sunday until one hour after the competition starts (after that time, any problems please go to the signing on tent).

Please do not lose these passes as we understand that they will last you for both days - more information at the time of collection.

Once through the Main Entrance and inside the World Cup Village, turn right and go through the Expo Area and the Tech Area to the village perimeter and to the log section. There will be another gazebo with a "British Trials Championship" banner. This is where you need to sign on to the trials event and collect your punchcard. Signing on will be manned from 9.00am and throughout the day untill the trials event finishes.

There will be a pre-trial briefing at 10.15am at the signing on tent - we strongly advise you to attend and listen - there will no doubt be some special instructions relative to this venue and this event.

The competition will start at 10.30am promptly, the finish time will be announced at the pre-trial briefing but we would expect it to be around 3.30 to 4.00pm.

The award presentations will be made on the day and on the stage of the main event. Please check the results at the signing-on tent and if you're in the top 3, please hang around and follow the organisers to the side of the main stage. If you are not present, then your award will be given to the next place so make sure you're there!!! Even if you're not in the top 3 - come along to the main stage and cheer on the winners.

Mobile phone service is not too good in the area, but in emergency you should be able to contact control on 07850 505298.

Postal and on-line entries must close at midnight on Wednesday 2nd June. Late entries may be accepted by telephone to the Secretary on 07850 505298 but may not be able to get their free entry pass - safer to get it off sooner rather than later!!!

Hope to see everyone there, and have a safe journey.

If you're looking for something different, with loads of atmosphere, loads of spectators cheering you on, and a great range of riding obstacles, then make sure you don't miss the 5th and 6th June at the Nevis Range, Fort William.

A long way to travel? Don't worry, it's worth the journey!

Pictures show some of the sections from previous events at Fort William. Sections having included massive log sections, imported rocks, concrete pipes, telephone boxes, and even a pick-up truck, as well as river and woodland sections.

In 2009 a group of Elite riders were followed around the course by TV cameras, and the programme televised on the BBC. Wonder if they'll be there again this year?

18/04/10 British National Cup, Round 1 - Barrow Farm, Essex Trial & Jump Centre

Many many thanks to everyone who attended the event, we had a really good day, and many thanks to the land owners and venue organisers, www.radicalbikes.co.uk. Many members of the general public came along to watch the event, with several complimenting the organisers on such an excellent event, and that they had not known about the sport previously - whilst several complimented us on how friendly and helpful the riders were - you should all be proud of yourselves! One person even praised the fact that there is no entry charge for spectators! In general, a great day out, free of charge, for spectators.

In the meantime, riders were battling it out on the course in beautiful sunshine on some excellent sections, both man-made from a selection of tyres, concrete pipes, wooden and concrete sleepers, and loads of logs, to a couple of nice wet muddy woodland sections that caught a few people out who aren't used to mud! All in all, some great riding from everyone. The results are now available from the Nationals page of the website.

The next round is to be held at the ever-popular Addingham Moorside on 16th May, so get the date in your diary and do you best to come along. Entry forms will be available soon.

07/04/10 BICYCLE TRIALS CLUB OF WALES - Training day 10/04/10 cancelled due to lack of support

Notification has been received that the new biketrial club announced below has had no option but to cancel their very first event this weekend due to lack of support.

Riders have been crying out for more events and it seems a great shame that when volunteers arrange things, that people simply can't be bothered to send off entry forms or even make a phone call. Last year the TykeTrial 2-day event had to be cancelled because of lack of pre-entries before the closing date. YMSA have suffered the same problem in the past.

29/03/10 Notification received EBU Championship Andorra cancelled.
26/03/10 TykeTrial newsletter added.
21/03/10 TykeTrial page updated and results added.
10/03/10 British National Trials Cup 2010 - First round, Essex Trials & Jump Centre, Barrow Farm

Limited camping is available on-site, but you do need to book in advance. Full details for camping, accommodation and directions are on the entry form. Please don't leave it till the last minute - get it filled in now!!!

The first Newsletter of the year is also now available - check out the Media page.

Hope to see everyone in Essex in April.

11/01/10 British National Events 2010

Ready for the new season of trials? Dates and venues are now available on the "Nationals" page and on the "Events" page - don't book accommodation yet as some dates are still provisional, but at least you can start planning!

We are looking for experienced help to run and set up a couple of the events, ie Addingham Moorside, and Bracken Rocks - if you can help, please drop us an email on info@biketrialuk.co.uk.

01/01/10 Welcome to trials in 2010
Regrettably 2009 ended on an unusual note with our Secretary suffering a broken leg at the last trial, meaning that our planned Annual Meeting could not go ahead as scheduled. Lots of telephone conferences have taken place to discuss how the year went, and plans for 2010. After a full recovery, the meeting will be re-arranged for as soon as possible in the New Year.
However, we can confirm that the organisers will continue to work with British Cycling, and we can confirm the Biketrial Federation's sponsorship again for 2010 from Onza - many many thanks to this great British company. Click on their logo above to check out their website.
Dates for 2010 Federation British Cup and Championship events will be announced as soon as possible, dates for international events have now been added to the Events page.
Focus will be given to raising media attention to the sport - if you take any good photos or videos at an event, please feel free to send them along to us for our media page, or for publication in magazines.
As always, we need more helpers. Trials is a voluntary sport and all organisation is done on a voluntary basis, if you or your parents feel that they could help out, either with the planning/preparation or at events, please do contact us, all help is very welcome.
Give competitions a go in 2010, you don't need to be the best, classes are available for all riding abilities, just come along, meet new people in a great atmosphere, and have a good time!
